Reduction in Ramp-Up Time
The Challenge
ExcelKits, a fast-growing software development company, was preparing to launch a new product under a tight deadline. To meet delivery timelines, they needed to onboard an entire project team within weeks. The company faced several operational constraints: Inconsistent hiring practices Unclear onboarding structure Limited time for new hires to build trust and collaboration Misalignment in communication styles across technical roles While skills were strong, differences in working styles and expectations slowed integration. Leadership needed: Faster team cohesion Clearer communication expectations A repeatable hiring and onboarding system Without intentional structure, rapid growth risked creating friction that would impact delivery speed.
What We Did
1. Implemented a DISC Assessment for Teams Quokka Hub facilitated a structured DISC assessment for teams to improve awareness of communication styles, decision-making tendencies, and collaboration preferences. Each team member completed a DISC assessment. Results were reviewed in a facilitated session focused on: Understanding dominant communication patterns Identifying areas of friction between styles Clarifying expectations for feedback and accountability Establishing practical communication norms Rather than using DISC as a standalone exercise, insights were integrated into daily workflows. The goal was behavioral clarity — not personality labeling. 2. Structured Recruitment Framework Alongside the DISC work, we developed a more consistent hiring process. This included: Role-specific job descriptions emphasizing outcomes Structured interview questions aligned to performance expectations Clear evaluation criteria to reduce subjectivity This reduced variability in hiring decisions and improved alignment between role requirements and candidate strengths. 3. Scalable Onboarding System We designed a milestone-based onboarding experience to reduce ambiguity during the first 30–60 days. The onboarding system included: Defined expectations by week Documented workflows Mentorship pairing Early feedback checkpoints DISC insights were incorporated into onboarding conversations to accelerate communication clarity between managers and new hires. The Impact The DISC work improved cross-functional collaboration by increasing awareness of how team members prefer to: Receive feedback Process information Make decisions Handle conflict Instead of assuming misalignment was a performance issue, managers had a shared language to address communication gaps constructively. By combining behavioral insight with structured systems, ExcelKits reduced onboarding friction and strengthened team execution under pressure.
“The DISC session gave us a shared language for how we work. We could quickly identify communication gaps and adjust. It sped up integration immediately”
